Padres DFA Ohlendorf among slew of roster moves

The San Diego Padres designated right- hander Ross Ohlendorf for assignment among multiple roster moves on Tuesday.

Ohlendorf had been signed in early June to a major league contract. He went 4-4 with a 7.58 earned run average in nine starts for San Diego until he was optioned to Triple-A Tucson on Aug. 18.

In addition, the Padres reinstated pitcher Anthony Bass from the 60-day disabled list, recalled pitcher Brad Boxberger and utilityman Andy Parrino from Tucson, selected the contract of catcher Ali Solis from Double-A San Antonio and designated catcher Eddy Rodriguez for assignment.

Bass went 2-7 with a 4.70 ERA in 16 games (14 starts) until right shoulder inflammation landed him on the DL back on June 24. The right-hander fanned nine and allowed eight hits over three rehab starts for Tucson.

Boxberger has been shuttled back and forth from Tucson to San Diego multiple times in the last week. The 24-year-old pitched in 13 games early in the season for the Padres, and has gone 2-2 with a 2.70 ERA in 37 appearances at Triple-A.

Parrino was placed on the Opening Day roster, but hit only .174 with one homer, four doubles and three RBI from Apr. 7 through June 25.

Rodriguez hit a home run in his first career at-bat on Aug. 2, but was optioned to Triple-A one week later. In 101 combined games with Tucson and Single-A Lake Elsinore, he hit .217 with 14 homers and 42 RBI.
